Knitters Group

Knitting needles, yarn and a gift for gab are the only things necessary for a Tuesday afternoon or  a bi-monthly Friday evening at Threads in Time  Knitters Group.

"Stitch ‘n Bitch is an example of what we call our community groups," said Lynn Landry-Rody owner of Threads in Time,  a collective that supports local artists, "which is essentially just groups of people ... with a like-focus."

For nearly six years, people from many different walks of life have gathered at Threads in Time  on Tuesday afternoons to bond over whatever their knitting projects may be. Those who attend Stitch ‘n Bitch gatherings are not just honing their knitting skills.  Knitters say that they  continue to attend these events because of the sense of community they feel with the rest of the group.  "We help each other with dropped stitches, broken relationships or even finding a good, trustworthy car mechanic," Landry-Rody said.

Although there is generally a core group of mostly women who come to Stitch ‘n Bitch each week, these gatherings are open to anyone with an appreciation for yarn and a good conversation."There really is no set schedule or program for Stitch ‘n Bitch events. "It's pretty casual. Usually people bring their own snacks, drinks and whatever they're working on." There is always a huge pot of tea to share.

Susan Lang who has been attending Stitch ‘n Bitch since its inception six years ago, said a lack of experience should not hold anyone back from joining the group.

"There are beginners working on their first knit rectangle, as well as knitters who have a passion for lacework, like Margaret Duncan.  Susan and Margaret both teach knitting classes at Threads in Time.  From beginners to experts, elderly to undergrads, those in attendance discuss a variety of topics over their needles and thread.  Landry-Rody says conversations can take a turn toward the unexpected.

Stitch ‘n Bitch Knitters Group meets every Tuesday 1:00 p.m. at Threads in Time at 426 Victoria Avenue East in Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada and also every other Friday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
